=== What is Tise? Tise is a Tibetan input utility for Win2K/XP. It will not work for any lower version of Windows, because it uses low level keyboard hook API available only starting with Win2K. For older versions of Windows an excellent tibwin utility by Marvin Moser is available for free. Tise is not based on tibwin and does not use any code from tibwin. Tise was written from scratch. Tise is intended for use with Microsoft Word as a text processor. Wylie transliteration is used for typing Tibetan. Tise intercepts user input and converts Wylie syllables into proper codes for the Tibetan text to be displayed using LGM truetype font. Compatibility with older Tibetan documents typed in L or LTibetan truetype font is implemented in LGM font. === How to use the program Tise has two modes of operation: ascii mode and wylie mode. Ascii mode is used for normal typing of English text. By default it starts in wylie mode for Tibetan typing, so upon starting the program one is able immediately to type Tibetan. Wylie mode is highlighted with brighter Kailash icon with sun, whereas ascii mode - with darker Kailash icon without sun. Toggling between two modes is done by pressing Shift+Space key. By default Tise will hide itself into an icon in the right lower corner of the desktop. This behavior can be changed in Tise settings dialog, invoked from menu item Options-> Settings or via pressing Ctrl+S. Tise is able to type all the basic Tibetan represented by Wylie transliteration. Please refer to Appendix 1 for the list of Tibetan syllables implemented by now. Longer vowels (with a subjointed small letter a) are typed as "aa", "ii", "ee", "oo", "uu" respectively (not fully implemented yet). === Tibetan punctuation The following punctuation marks are supported: Tibetan mark tsheg - space key or '-' key Tibetan mark shad - forward slash ('/') key or Shift+! Tibetan mark gnyis tsheg shad - backward slash ('\') key Tibetan mark bsdus rtags - '|' key (or Shift+\) Tibetan mark gter tsheg - ';' key Tibetan mark sbrul shad - '"' key or '_' (Shift+-) Tibetan sign rnam bcad (visarga) - ':' (or Shift+;) Tibetan mark yig mgo mdun ma (initial yig mgo) - '<' key (Shift+,) or ')' (Shift+0) Tibetan mark yig mgo sgab ma (closing yig mgo) - '>' key (Shift+.) Space is inserted by pressing 'x' key. === Sanskrit letters They are usually typed with Shift key pressed. Implemented are Tibetan Sanskrit Ta, THa, Da, Na, Sha. === Sanskrit syllables and mantras Tise is able to convert some mantras typed directly from the keyboard. Please refer to Appendix 2 for the list of mantras implemented by now. There are also some ambiguous cases. RAM, for example, when typed as "ram", is converted into two-syllabic Tibetan ra+ma; whereas when typed as "raM" (with Shift key pressed), it is converted into a mantric syllable RAM. NYA, when typed as "nya", becomes Tibetan "nya", and when typed as NYa, becomes Tibetan "na" + subjointed "ya". DMA, when typed as "dma", becomes Tibetan "da+ma", and when typed as DMa, becomes Sanskrit "da" + subjointed "ma". === Acknowledgements This project would not be possible without support by Jim Valby, Igor Legati, Mark Fulton and Mark Farrington. My deep thanks to them, to Fabio Andrico, who gave me his advices and inspiration, and to Carisa O'Kelly and Anastasia McGhee, who brought a font editing utility that was used for designing new Tibetan font. === APPENDIX 1.
